Covid Pandemic Waterfront 2021 Policies and Procedures:
Chequessett Club has made the decision to not staff the waterfront or offer club rentals for the season due to the Covid Pandemic. The Waterfront is one of the historical pillars of Chequessett. It has long offered us all a path to truly celebrate our location on the shores of Wellfleet Bay. We appreciate your understanding of the situation that led to this decision.
Members with their own equipment may continue to use the waterfront but assume the risk of all land and water activities on Chequessett property. Please note, Chequessett will NOT have any type of boat in the water, so we will be unable to help any member who has an issue on the water. Please be prepared to call the Harbormaster if a problem arises!
Below, we give guidelines for each area of the waterfront.
RENTALS
Due to the impossibility of guaranteeing safe social distancing measures and sufficient sanitizing protocols at the waterfront, Chequessett will not be offering sailboat, kayak, or SUP rentals to members and guests this Summer.
LESSONS & CLINICS
Chequessett will not offer private sailing lessons, youth clinics, or adult clinics this Summer. Again, Chequessett’s leadership determined that safe social distancing could not be guaranteed when teaching on small vessels.
MEMBER BOAT/KAYAK STORAGE, MOORING RIGHTS & PERSONAL USE
Individuals who have purchased Sailing & Waterfront, Full, Associate, and Young Associate memberships may still store their actively used small boats or kayaks at the waterfront until Columbus Day for personal use throughout the Summer. We will be making dedicated areas for each member to store their personal vessel in. Before leaving any vessels in the boatyard, please contact Barbara Boone at gm@chequessettclub.com to register for a space.
Similarly, Full, Associate, and Young Associate Members may moor a boat up to 20′ in the bay directly in front of the Clubhouse. Please see the Harbor Master for a mooring Permit and any applicable fees. All boats put on moorings must have their location approved before putting in a mooring. Please email Barbara Boone at gm@chequessettclub.com to confirm mooring sites.
PROTOCOLS for BOATYARD STORAGE & USE
It is of the utmost importance that members only use and/or handle their own vessels. We will be making dedicated areas for each member to store their personal vessel in. Before leaving any vessels in the boatyard, please contact Barbara Boone at gm@chequessettclub.com to register for and be assigned a space.
Please display your name clearly on your boat or kayak in several different places that will be visible to both yourself and others. If you accidentally handle another member’s boat or kayak, there will be sanitation spray by the red door shed that can be sprayed on equipment without having to be wiped down.
SAILING SHED
The Sailing Shed will remain locked throughout the Summer and will not be available to store sails, tillers, centerboards, paddles, etc. Members must transport these items back and forth after each use each use of your vessel.
BEACH USE
Members must maintain social distancing at all times while on the Beach. Please note, that there is limited beach access. You may set up in the boathouse parking area but please note, there are sand areas on top of the revetment that could cave in due to crevices. Please stay off the revetment area.
BOATHOUSE DECK
The boathouse deck is a tempting place to get out of the sun. This area will NOT be sanitized! Please do not use this area.
PARKING
Parking is NOT allowed in the boatyard area. You may pull down slowly to unload if necessary but then all vehicles must be parked in the parking lot at the Clubhouse.
