INITIATIVES
Mosquito Control Plan 2023
To mitigate the mosquito infestation realized during the previous seasons, early this spring, the Club will engage a pest control company to treat the course regularly. In conjunction with the anticipated dryer weather, mosquitos could very well be a non-factor. season. The Club plans to continue performing mosquito control to maintain a pleasant, mosquito-free environment.

HERRING RIVER PROJECT
Herring River Project – Update 12-15-2022
Town of Wellfleet accepts $50,000,000 in grants for Herring River Restoration Project
The Selectboard reviewed draft grant agreements last month and authorized the Town Administrator to work with the agencies to finalize terms for $27,200,000 in funding from the US Department of Agriculture, Natural Resource Conservation Service and $22,670,000 Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game, Division of Ecological Restoration. The federal grant requires $8,000,000 in non-federal matching funds, which will be provided by
the state grant.
The grants provide full funding for construction of a new bridge and sluice gate structure to replace the existing dike at Chequessett Neck Road, as well as other project elements including the Chequessett Club Golf Course. The existing dike was first built in 1909 and is the primary cause of tidal restriction and ecological decline in Herring River.
From the Club:
With the final engineering, design, permitting, planning stages and securing of financial support have the Herring River ready to begin. Construction of the temporary bridge, spanning the existing dike at Chequessett Neck Road, will be commencing this spring-summer. However, the timing of the project specific to its impact to Chequessett remains in question. Barry McLaughlin and the Club’s Herring River Committee have had continued dialogue with the Town of Wellfleet to obtain more definitive information with respect to the project’s schedule, final course design, and cost, but the information received to date remains inconclusive. With certainty, we can assure you that the Club will remain fully operational throughout the 2023 season. As more information becomes available, we will promptly update all members through email correspondence and by updating this section of the website.
